Masters Hardware moving in
THE mystery of which major retailer will move on to the land behind The Mean Fiddler has been solved: a Masters Home Improvement Centre.
The Woolworths-backed major hardware chain plans to build one of its first Sydney warehouses on the Commercial Rd site which was the focus of discussions last year between The Hills Shire Council, US retail giant Costco and furniture giant Ikea.
The first Australian store opened in Victoria last month.
The 13,661sq m development could include a 7748sq m warehouse, a 2144sq m outdoor garden area and a 2318sq m trade supplies area.
There would be 389 parking spaces provided and there would also be a small restaurant on site.
The neighbouring properties would be protected by a 21m gap between the back fences and the main building, which would also include walls, trees and turf to provide privacy.
The development is valued at $13 million and is expected to create up to 150 jobs.
Masters would stock similar goods to its main rival Bunnings, including tools, building materials, paint, home decor, plants and landscaping products.
It is expected that the store would operate from 6am to 10pm weekdays and 6am to 8pm on weekends.
